Google Likes Radio

It was only a matter of time until Google came up with adsense for radio and the time is now. Google may even buy out or buy into the nations largest radio conglomerate, Clear Channel. No word on if this technology will be used for podcasting ad insertion, but it would seem silly to not offer that service. Remember the days when we all feared Microsoft was going to take over the world? Microsoft looks like the new IBM. Enter the reign of Google.

YouTube Asked To Remove 1,000 Sports Clips

A digital rights company representing sporting bodies has asked YouTube to remove about 1,000 videos for copyright infringement – and believes there are as many as 10,000 more illegal clips on the website.

At what point does YouTube become boring and uninteresting as it’s content gets sucked out? At what point will Google be unable to maintain and improve YouTube as it is overwhelmed with takedown requests? Maybe that’s the strategy all along. Bleed ‘em dry and max them out with work. YouTube, your 15min of fame is up. Time to move on to the next hot thing.

CBS To Shoot “Genius Bar”

CBS is going forward with plans to shoot a pilot episode of a sit-com they are calling Genius Bar.

the series centers on the interactions between employees at the customer help bar in an Apple-esque store and the employees at a near by Abercrombie & Fitch-style store.

This show, if it ever gets past the pilot, will be a complete disaster. The biggest clue, beyond the insane concept, is that one of the people behind the show concept is a “consumer marketing expert”. Enough said.

Snocap and Myspace In Deal

Myspace will begin selling music on-line, allowing 3 million of the bands currently listed on the social network to sell their tracks directly from their Myspace pages or the pages of their fans. Myspace will use Snocap technology which is a really slick web element that integrates easily into a Myspace page or any weblog. Using Snocap, bands should be able to choose their own price point and DRM, if any. Many will choose no DRM so they will not be locked down to an Apple or Microsoft only solution.

TiVo Coming To Cox

Finally Tivo does something really smart. They should completely forget their hardware and focus on licensing their technology to other box makers. This is where the money is and the real value is in the software.

CBS Primetime On The Net!!!

YES! This is what I have been waiting for. CBS announced they will put parts of their primetime fall lineup on the Innertube website. CSI, Survivor and the new show Jericho will be included. This will be free of charge and will have limited commercials. Very similar to what ABC did with Lost and Desparate Housewives last year. ABC will also continue to make shows available for free in the same way. This is a much better deal for the networks because viewers cannot fast forward through commercials. But the commercials are much less and have not bothered me much. A good trade off for getting them on-line. This could hurt iTunes because why buy a show when you can get it for free. The only reason now is to put it on your iPod.
